Ema summitted Everest on May 13, 2022. Was she the first female to do so, no, but she is one of just a few Canadian women who have completed this feat and the first Portuguese female to do so.
Was it easy, again no. But like in life, when you work hard, anticipate and overcome obstacles, you can often achieve your goal.
There was a cost though. It took two attempts.
And then climbing over the dead body frozen in the steps to the summit was emotionally hard. There was nothing to be done for this person, but the thought of climbing over this person without ceremony was challenging. It wasn’t something to prepare for, how could it be? Like life again, we can’t anticipate every possible scenario.
Ema shares her experiences in life, in business and in climbing. She expertly relates them to scenarios her audiences may face and tells you how you can use tools and strategies to bring about success.
What’s it like to accomplish a goal? A big lofty one at that? How do you push to overcome personal, physical and professional obstacles.
Ema will tell you about what it took to summit Everest, how she used the demise of her marriage and her commitment to herself to push on.

Mental Mountains is more than a story of Everest, it’s the start of a dream. Follow young Ema as she develops into the woman we know today.
Shivering, exhausted, gasping for oxygen…Ema can’t help but think of the parallels in her life at the exact moment.
Refusing to allow the “glass ceiling” or “limiting beliefs” hold her back, Ema became one of just a few females to summit Everest, climb the 7 summits of the world, and live to tell the tale.

An Example of What It Takes
When Ema was preparing to climb Everest, and all of the 7 Summits of the World for that matter, she had to push her body to new levels. It wasn’t going to be enough to just go through the same workouts she had always engaged in. She needed to be able to rely on her strength and endurance both physically and mentally to climb this monster of a mountain.
Physically it was “easy” to prepare. She did the work; she developed her muscles and worked hard to push her body’s limits with the help of a personal trainer. She has shared some of this work below.
Mentally preparing was a different story. How could she prepare for the enormous task of climbing Everest? How could she put aside all her life “stuff” (and there was a lot going on) and focus on the task at hand? Well… she learned quickly that she can’t. Each of the “trials” in her life are what would help her climb that Mental Mountain. With every step, personal challenge, heartache and celebration, she was building stamina, training her mental muscle to prepare for Everest.
